How to Find Winning Products to Sell on eBay UK (2026 Guide)
A winning product on eBay UK is one that already sells, where a new seller can still get orders, and where the numbers leave real profit after every cost. Here is a method you can repeat every week, with or without tools.
1. Start from proof of demand
- Sold counts. Many eBay listings show how many have sold. A listing with hundreds sold, and new orders this month, is proof that buyers want it.
- Sold listings filter. Search the product on eBay.co.uk, tick “Sold items” and check how many sold in the last few weeks and at what price.
- Season. Check Google Trends for the UK. Steady or rising interest is safer than a one-week spike.
2. Check the competition
- If the first page is all big brands or one seller with thousands of reviews, move on.
- Look for listings from ordinary sellers that still sell well. That means a new seller can compete.
- Watch for a price war: many sellers at almost the same low price leaves no room for profit.
3. Prefer small, light and simple
Products that post as a large letter or a small parcel keep your postage low and returns cheap. Avoid fragile items, anything needing certificates you can’t get, and branded or licensed goods you are not allowed to sell.
4. Find the same item from a supplier
Search AliExpress, Temu or Alibaba for the product, and use their search by photo to find the same item, not just a similar one. Open the supplier page and check the exact variant (size, colour, cable type), because the cheapest price shown is often for a different variant. See our guide on finding a supplier for any eBay product.
5. Work out your real profit
Profit = eBay price − eBay fees − supplier price (with VAT) − shipping from the supplier − your postage to the buyer.
- eBay fees: budget around 13–15% of the sale price in most categories, and check eBay’s fee page for yours.
- VAT: AliExpress and Temu add 20% UK VAT at checkout on orders up to £135, so add it to the price you see in search results.
- Target: aim for at least 25–30% margin, so ads, returns and price changes don’t wipe it out.
6. Test small, then scale
Order a sample first and check the quality yourself. List a small batch, watch sales for two to three weeks, and only then buy more stock.
